The Ocean

The Oceans takes up 7 10ths of the earth. But the ocean is actually only 96.5% water. The other 3.5% is 2.75% Sodom chloride and 0.78% other things.
  The ocean contains 360 quintillions gallons of water. (And just so you know; a quintillion is a billion billions which is 6 sets of 3 zeros or18 zeros.
  Gallons of water int the ocean:
               1,000,000,000,000,000,000, times 360. That's a lot of water.
   One cubic mile of ocean water contains:

           4.5 billion tons of water

           128 million tons of Sodium Chloride (table salt)

           18 million tons of magnesium chloride

           8 million tons of magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt)

           6 million tons of calcium sulfate

           4.2 million tons of potassium chloride

           470,000 tons of calcium carbonate

           47,000 tons of rubidium

           1,400 fluorine

           1,400 tons of nitrogen

           470 tons of zinc

           380 tons of phosphorous

           380 tons of arsenic

           94 tons of iodine

Any way that's a lot of things in one cubic mile of ocean.

The Metric System

Why do we have the Metric System?

'cause it's just so Cool!!!

The Metric System is used by scientists because it can go from beyond huge to the size of an atom of even smaller.

   We have different words to measure different things such as: Volume is called a Liter or in abbreviations (L.)
Mass is measured in Grams or (g.) And last of all; length is measured in meters or (M)
 
Here's what a part of the Metric System looks like.

              Pico one trillionth (or one tenth to the 12th power.)

              nanomicro one billionth (or one tenth to the 9th power.)

              milli one millionth (or  one tenth to the 6th power.)

              centi one hundreth (or one tenth to the 3rd power.)

              deci one tenth (or one tenth to the 1st power.)

              deka ten (10)

              hecto hundred (10 to the 2nd power.)

              kilo thousand (10 to the 3rd power.)

              mega million (10 to the 6th power.)

              giga billion (10 to the 9th power.)

              tera trillion (10 to the 12th power.)

(These are all Latin words & 10 to the 2nd or 12th power means that you add how many ever zeros. So ten to the 3rd power is 10,000 
  And there is the Metric System.

Rain Droplets

I thought that I would do some cool facts for a while & so here's your cool fact of the day.

       Cloud and Rain Droplets; (There are four different sizes of droplets.)

                 Rain Droplets -(Diameter) 2mm

                 Drizzle droplets -(Diameter) 0.3mm

                 Giant Cloud droplets-(Diameter) 0.1mm

                 Cloud droplets-(Diameter) 0.02mm

Just so that you know, mm stands for Milli Meter and is one one thousandth of an inch.
         (mm is part of the Metric System. I'll do a post on it pretty soon.)

Michael, 4 Years Today

 Michael was the biggest blessing that GOD ever gave us and a big surprise too.

 We weren't expecting to have more kids and were defiantly surprised that it was a little boy.

 We were also quite surprised to find out how much energy he has. 

 In one meal he can neatly polish off a grand serving of three to four peanut and butter and jelly sandwiches as well as some fruit and desert if we have it.

 GOD knew that we needed another little kid, plus he also bless mommy with the four years of rest betwean Sarah.
  I guess he knew that mommy would need to build up energy to keep up with him

Behold, children are a blessing from the LORD.

The Amazing Sighting!

 Yesterday I herd my younger siblings screaming at the top of their lungs. So I ran to my window and saw that all my brothers and sisters were screaming and pointing at the sky.
  When I leaned out to look out I saw the biggest flock of birds that I had ever seen that weren't those little song birds.

 I ran out side to get a better look and it turned out to be a huge flock of Herrings.

 It was the weirdest thing that I have ever seen and it was really cool to watch them change spots because this big ripple would just flow down the lines.

 And so that was our exciting sight of the week.

Leep-a-Year

Today is Leap-a-Year.
The twenty ninth of February! A big day because it only comes every four years.
  Do you know why that is?
  Well, the earth takes approximately 365 and one quarter days to orbit the sun. So what dose one do with the extra quarter day?
  If you just let it be, with in ten years, you would have Christmas in July and fourth of July in December. (I was just guessing on how many years it would take to mix every thing up.) But it would get mixed up if some very smart person hadn't figured out what to do about that small issue.
  So every four years, you add an extra day. And because February got dumped with the bad end of the day deal and got stuck with only twenty eight days, some one decided to give February the privileged of getting the Leap-a-Year day.
  There is also a Leap-a-Second because the earth doesn't take exactly twenty four hours to go around in a circle but that's another confusing matter.
  "So have a very Happy Leap-a-Year! :)

Eyes

Insects have what is called a Compacted Eye. 

This eye is made out of hundreds maybe thousands of tiny little eyes. Each of these eyes sees and then sends it's own message to the insects brain.
  We aren't really sure why GOD did it this way but He did.
  Some insects also have what is called a Ocelli Eye. It is such a basic eye that it can only tell light from dark.

This is what a compacted eye sees.

  Some insects have these in only one stage of their life and others will have it there entire life.

Back again

Well, it's now time to get back to school.

On an insects head, the exoskeleton's plates are sealed together to protected the insect's brain.
An insect's brain isn't near as big as a humans or as complicated. But still, it's a brain and all brains are complicated.
  The insects brain works a lot lick a humans' brain. It sends messages through the insects nerve cord and the insect reacts.
(A humans nerve cord is protected by a back bone)

The biggest questions is, dose a insect feel pain?
No one is quite sure but studies have shown that the insect probably doesn't feel any pain because if it did it would stop walking or at  lease react somewhat.
